Crystal Perry, Founder | CEO of Melanated PEARL Inc Announced as a [Silver] Winner in Humanitarian Action & Services Campaign - Non-Profit Awareness & Media Categories for The 3rd Annual Anthem Awards. 

[Hampton, GA] — [January 31, 2024] – [Crystal Perry] announced today that Melanated PEARL Inc it is a Silver Anthem Winner for the FY 5 Emergency Assistance and Rapid Rehousing Program -   in The 3rd Annual Anthem Awards.

This year’s Anthem Award Winners were selected from a pool of over 2,000 submissions from 44 countries by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS). Anthem judges are intellectually diverse leaders from across the impact industry with expertise that spans across the Anthem cause areas. IADAS members include: Heather Dowdy, Director of Product Accessibility, Netflix; Alex Amouyel, President & CEO, Newman’s Own Foundation; Noel Kinder, Chief Sustainability Officer, Nike; Shaniqua McClendon, Vice President of Politics, Crooked Media/Vote Save America; Rawle Andrews Jr., Esq., Executive Director, American Psychiatric Association Foundation; Alison Moore, CEO, Comic Relief US; Christina Lang, Vice President of North American Marketing, Mozilla; Michelle Waring, Steward for Sustainability and Everyday Good, Tom’s of Maine; and more.

A portion of program revenue is allocated to the Anthem Award’s grant program, The Anthem Fund. This year the Anthem Fund partnered with Billion Oyster Project to support their work to restore and conserve New York’s waterways. 

About [Melanated PEARL Inc]: Melanated PEARL Inc is a nonprofit organization in Clayton County, Georgia, dedicated to empowering and uplifting women of color. As part of this mission, the organization has provided critical support to homeless women and families in the area for the past five years. The organization offers services and programs to address the immediate needs of people experiencing homelessness and housing instability, including emergency rental assistance, transitional housing, job training and placement, mental health and substance abuse counseling, and financial literacy workshops. Melanated Pearl also provides resources for basic needs such as food, clothing, and hygiene.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Summary
In FY 5 Melanated PEARL distributed $1.7 million to implemented its ERAP1 Emergency Housing Program, designed to provide short-term assistance to individuals and families who were experiencing a crisis situation between November 2022 to March 2023. Participants were placed in emergency housing for a period of up to 90 -120 days. The program was intended to provide a safety net for those who are experiencing homelessness and help them get back on their feet and achieve long-term stability.

Goals & Objectives
The program’s primary objective was to help individuals and families secure safe and stable housing as quickly as possible. The program offers a range of services including emergency shelter, case management, and referrals to community resources.

Results & Impact
Melanated PEAL Inc placed 150 individual and families during the coldest month in GA and offered case management services to identify and address the challenges that led to their homelessness, such as job loss, substance abuse, or mental health issues.
