Why MelanatedPearl?Because, it is time to repair our communities by caring for the women who take care of them! Throughout our history, we’ve grown accustomed to thinking and talking about the interests of the Black community almost exclusively in terms of the challenges faced by Black men; our brothers, our fathers and our sons. We have conversations about African-American men and boys without anyone ever pausing to understand and provide solutions for what is happening to the women and girls around them. |
Educate | Uplift | Empower

There is this assumption that the conversation about Black women and girls is happening at a nonprofit somewhere, in some community, or at some other organization. It turns out, that just hasn’t happen and or isn't happening enough. We get into the habit of deferring conversation about women and girls into perpetuity.
UNTIL NOW!
Many of the circumstances that we’ve come to accept as justifying an exclusive focus on men and boys are in fact directly related to the social-economic challenges facing their mothers and those, in turn , are directly related to some of the challenges facing girls. We have an opportunity to break the cycle of by assisting women through purposeful programs that improve ones quality of life.

Community Engagement Categories-Leader of the Year |
Meet our Founder, Crystal PerryCrystal Perry is a wife, mom, educational leader with 20 plus years of experience, and founder of the non-profit, Melanated PEARL Corporation. By nature I am pretty intense. I am loud. I am a women of color. I am a mother. I am a wife. I am an advocate for children. I speak with confidence and have a tone of voice that I've been told can be intimidating during a first encounter. I was raised in the Georgia South by both parents during a time when drugs and alcohol were strategically placed in communities of color. I’ve experienced the pressures of being a first generation college student, while being a teen mother of multiple children (twins) with various learning difficulties and medical needs. I've experienced racism, sexism, discrimination, self doubt, academic pitfalls and business failures and learned an immense amount from it. Those experiences were preparing and developing me as I transitioned into a P.E.A.R.L. - Passionate Engaged Activist Resisting Limitations |
